| Blondie,
Birth control pills have been reported to cause a low sex drive in many women. It has been seen that birth control pills inhibits the production of androgens, including testosterone, in a woman's ovaries. Testosterone is one of the main hormones responsible for maintaining a woman's sex drive and a low level can lower the sex drive.
Birth control pills also cause dryness of the vagina and less sexual sensitivity of the vaginal mucus membrane. Dryness can cause pain during sex and a gradual and further lowering of the sex drive.
Besides birth control pills, other medications like anti-depressants can also lower the sex drive. Please think back and see if you started taking any new medication around the same time that you began to notice a difference in your sex drive.
Other things which can cause mental stress like communication issues between partners, lack of trust, arguments can affect the sex drive. Even things outside the partnership like fatigue, stress at the workplace etc. can lower the sex drive.
In women, the sex drive and getting an orgasm is very dependent on the woman's mental status at the time she has sex - a woman who is enthusiastic and passionate about her lover and the sex act itself is more easily roused and can attain orgasm earlier.
For many women, the woman on top position can help in getting an orgasm earlier since clitoral stimulation is better in this position.
In your case, since you have noted a low sex drive from around the time you started the birth control pill, please consult your gynecologist for an alternative. You can also go back to the Nuvaring since it had worked so well for you earlier.
You can also ask for a thorough examination at the time you consult the gynecologist to rule out any physical issues which may be causing you difficulty in getting aroused and in getting an orgasm.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask a follow-up question if you need more information.
