I HAD AN IVF WITH COMPLICATIONS. WILL I GET PREGNANT AGAIN? Hi, I just have returned from hospital. Last Monday i went into hospital to get an egg retrival after a stimulated ivf cycle. I had some internal bleeding and they had to stop the procedure. I then devloped Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) and had some problems with breathing. They then decided to do a CTA using radiation substance injected into my vein. I'm really worried that this internal bleeding and this radiation is going to affect any future pregnancies I may have. Lois K, Age: 26, San Jose REPLY Lois, Do you know what radiation substance you were injected with? And at what dose? FOLLOW-UP No, I don't know the name of the radiation substance. It was for a chest xray to check if I had clots in my chest. I felt warm as the substance went through my body three times and then they passed me through a round machine where I had to hold my breath. REPLY Lois, The drug that is injected during the CTA (Computed Tomography Angiography) will not affect your ovaries or your ability to get pregnant in future. It will not affect any ovum in your ovaries so future pregnancies should be healthy. Internal bleeding is quite common in IVF with Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). It will not affect you but doses for ovarian stimulation in future IVF procedures will need to be carefully adjusted since you are at risk for getting OHSS again. Please do not worry. Risks of either the radiation drug or the internal bleeding affecting furture pregnancies does not exist. I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask a follow-up question if you wish to know more.
