MY CERVIX IS BLOCKED

2 years ago I had a bone marrow transplant. I now have GVHD, which is affecting my skin. Grey in color, a bit hard, dark circles under my eyes and scarred spots from past rashes all over my body. I had pain in my lower abdomen. I went to the emergency room I was admitted to the hospital and they gave me a shot of dye to see images from a ct scan. I got a red rash and my face swelled to the point of my eyes closing. Doctors said its a reaction from the dye. I was put on antibiotics for a day to fight infection to my colon. They also said that the inner lining of the uterus was thickening. I was discharged but to return to the hospital OGBYN for a procedure. But the swelling got worse and my heart rate went up. I felt dizzy and I had a 103 fever. I was re-admitted. They say my vagina is closed and I have fluid built up inside (blood). They need to do surgery to open the cervix and remove the fluid and do a biopsy. I was given to understand that they may have to do like a c- section if neccessary. What do u think about this. And GVHD. Is this necessary? Thanks

SNP,

How old are you?

Did you have regular periods earlier? When did you get your last period?

What medicines are you on now?

FOLLOW-UP

I'm 55 years. I did have regular periods earlier. My last period was in 06 just after my bonemarrow transplant. Meds. Im on- Cellcept, Tacrolimus,Imuron, Beaudisomod, Estrogen(epiderm patch) Acyclovir. I'm to have surgery tomorrow. They are to try and enter vaginally and relieve pressure by removing the blood and fluid build up. If not then they will do-c section and biopsy .

The cervix which is the mouth of the uterus can sometimes close up, not allowing blood to come out. This usually happens in response to infection, to a tumor, or due to any injury at this region.

In your case, it is likely that the GVHD set up an inflammatory reaction at the cervix and /or lower part of the uterus, closing it up and preventing blood from flowing out.

Cervical or endometrial cancer is another possibility causing your cervix to get blocked.

Your doctors are carrying out the right treatment. The cervix should be opened up again if possible. If not, the uterus will need to be opened up as in a cesarian section and the blood drained.

Once the blood is drained, a D&C will need to be done to get a little endometriumfor a lab test.

The main problem is that the condition may recur. To prevent recurrence, once the cervix is opened up, an intrauterine contraceptive device will need to be put in to prevent the two walls of the cervix and uterus coming in contact and closing up again.

You will also need to continue the estrogen patch as well as use estrogen cream vaginally to encourage the growth of the endometrium (the inner uterine lining). A healthy endometrium will prevent closure of the walls.

If this does not help, you will need to get a hysterectomy - removal of the uterus.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask a follow-up question if you need more information.
