Can the hymen break or become damaged if a small child for years was constipated, had very large stools causing fissures and hemorrhoids? Between age of 2 to 7 bowel movements and constipation problems were experienced. Thanks
Betsy, 30 years, NZ.

| Betsy,
Yes, it can.
The hymen is very fragile and pushing at hard stools can transmit the pressure to the perineum (the area between the vagina and the anus).
If the abdominal pressure was high enough to cause hemorrhoids and fissures, then it was definitely high enough to cause rupture of the hymen.
A hymen can even rupture during biycle riding, athletics (long jump, high jump), horse riding, gymnastics etc.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask a follow-up question if you need more information.

| That will depend on the time gap between the assault and the examination.
If the time gap is less than 4-5 days, then yes, it may be possible to say that the hymen break was recent. But doubts will still remain - this is because the hymen does not contain much blood supply and heals quite fast.
But if the time gap is more than this, it will be difficult to say whether the hymen rupture took place as a child or later.
